You find a sign bearing the name (City of the
Dead or Catacombs)!!!!!
And below it, you will find a warning. It is
forbidden to enter people with heart or breathing problems, and those who have
claustrophobia. It is forbidden to enter!!!!!!
This article was asked by one of the readers of
the site, so here it is. We will discuss what the catacombs are, their origins,
and what events they went through in terms of historical events and
supernatural and terrifying events according to eyewitnesses, which led to the
closure of a large part of them.
Are you ready to go on a journey with a
population of 6 million people from the dead, and its ruler is death itself?
Will travel today to France, especially to
Paris.
let's start..............
History of the Catacombs:
- The story began during the period of Roman rule in France, where scholars of history and archeology suggested that the tunneling operations began in the second half of the 4th century. The Romans were excavating to extract the stones needed to build their cities and statues, and that was through the stones found in the region, not only on the ground but under the ground through quarries as well.
- Where the Romans at that time called Paris boxes the name of Lutetia until Paris fell from the rule of the Romans to the hands of the Francia tribes, and they are one of the German tribes at this time, which ruled Tarnai and Paris and Waachen.
- During the reign of King Clovis I (466 - November 26, 511) in the year 508, he ordered the establishment of Paris, the capital of his kingdom, so he completed excavations inside the catacombs to use the stones extracted to build the modern city.
- After building the city, no one used the catacombs until the year 1180. King Philip II ordered the construction of a wall around the city to protect it, so he continued excavations in the catacombs until the completion of this wall from the stones extracted from the tunnels.
- Then a royal decree specified to limit the operations of extracting stones from the catacombs and to stop them completely.
- Conditions began to deteriorate due to wars and epidemics in the city, as corpses were crowded in the burial places, but some things got out of control.
- Therefore, in the year 1777, a police officer named Alexandre Lenor asked to provide part of the catacombs to be a place to bury the dead to limit the spread of epidemics among the public.
- He agreed to the officer’s request, and the transfer of the corpses began in complete secrecy so as not to attract the attention of the clergy at this time, and that was in the period from (1785-1787), but it was not completed due to the outbreak of the French Revolution in 1789, which led to the cessation of transfers, but the city’s conditions worsened even more because of the war.
- The number of dead at that time was estimated between 16,000 to 40,000, which led to a catastrophe, as the dead were piled up on the city's outskirts and the roads. Diseases due to the spread of the dead at that time did not bear the cemeteries and became full, but the rainfall also had another response, so the cemeteries were destroyed and the corpses spread due to the rain at that time and the spread of the plague disease as well, which prompted the rulers to use the catacombs at that time to bury the dead in them.
- It did not end here. In 1810, Luis Ditto arranged the bones into this current form, and from 1814 to 1840, complete skeleton transfers were made to the catacombs.
- And it was opened in 1861 to receive visitors.
- But as usual, and historically known, World War II broke out, and the catacombs witnessed some stages of fighting inside them by the Nazi and French forces at that time, reinforcing the hypothesis of more deaths.
(Which reinforced the hypothesis that the place was among Earth’s 10 most inhabited places. We will discuss why next, so be well-focused, my friend)
Information about the Catacombs in Paris:
- Catacombe is considered one of the tourist attractions in the French capital, as the number of visitors annually reaches 300,000 visitors, as it is 350 km long, but only a small part of these places is open to visitors, so the largest part remains forbidden to the public, as the available area is only 1,700 meters. (and we will say why in the next part).
- Despite this, we find amateurs venturing into exploring unknown places inside these catacombs. As for the places open to tourists, the journey starts from one of the entrances in Place Denfert-Rochereau, during which they travel a distance of 2 km, the duration of the visit is 45 minutes, then the exit place is at this address: 36, Rue Rémy Dumonsal.
- And you must go down to 20-25 meters below the ground by stairs.
- And the temperatures at the bottom are 14 degrees Celsius, with the smell of death spreading in the place.
- The average ceiling height of the tunnels is 1.8 meters. During this journey, visitors see stacks of human bones and skulls on top of each other, stacked on the walls. In front of these piles of bones, old signs made of stone were placed showing the original place from which these bones came, such as the name and address of the cemetery.
Paranormal experiences and evidence inside the catacombs in Paris:
Lost in the Catacombs:
- No means of communication at the bottom with the outside world is
useful, as the place is outside the range of mobile phone coverage, and radio
devices or GPS cannot be used.
- It has already happened that one of the infiltrators was lost in 2008 for two days underground before he was found by the police squad in a deplorable state of dehydration in the middle of the pitch darkness.
- This story was mentioned by one of the police in a television report. The occurrence of the collapse of rocks and soil above them, despite all these dangers, the state of complete silence and tranquility that the place gives attracts some to it, and perhaps the love of adventure for others is the main motive for discovering the secrets of the place.
The presence of distress sounds from inside the catacombs and other frightening sounds:
- In the closed tunnels the visitors said that they were hearing strange voices there and heard voices ask help too but when they searched where came these voices they didn’t find from where!!!!!
- So they start to worry it can someone lost there or something else paranormal, but they guessed that was paranormal activity in these deep parts which is why they closed it after that,
- because saw so strong paranormal activity there listened to voices like ask help or scary scream and other voices so the government closed it better to not happen something more can’t handle it in the future.
Ghosts roaming in the catacombs:
- Whereas, Mr. (H) confirmed that during his private tour inside the private tunnels, he noticed an increase in strange sounds and strange moving sounds as well, which he thought he had been delusional about because of the place, but something else happened that was not expected!!!!!!!!
- Since Mr. (H) saw something that passed by him, but it is not human, but in human form, but it is transparent!!!
- So he thought he was delusional, but the more he penetrated, the more he felt that someone was watching him, and in a sudden moment he felt something that pushed him to the ground with force, so he bit quickly and jogged out of the corridor from where he came from. He told this story with me to a friend who was with him that day and was waiting for him outside.
What do you think, my friend, who did this to our friend, Mr. (H)?????
In The End:
As you can see, my
friend, the catacombs are not modern, they have been completed over the ages,
and they have been expanded many times to occupy the entire city of Paris.
But after the stories
of eyewitnesses, what is happening under the city in these catacombs, is what
is said happening there what is happening, or is there more than that under the
authorities' concealment after closing the rest of the passages?
There are many
unanswered questions about a place built not so long ago, but it is still
shrouded in mystery
