Today we going to talk about one of the most mysterious
stories from Iranian folklore, Kurdish mythology, and Turkish folklore mythology history this name “Şahmaran” or the snake’s queen has a strange story
behind it, and first, will think it is just a myth but after what I will show
you today will make you think twice.
So are you ready to go deeper into this
historical story?
Let’s Go………….
The Real Story Behind Şahmaran:
- “Şahmaran”, an orphan of both parents, lived with her old grandmother and was distinguished by her beauty, wisdom, and medicine. She loved a poor young man from the village, and as soon as the news of her love for the poor young man reached her cousin, the tyrannical Agha, he went mad and went to her and said to her, “Now I know the reason for your refusal to marry me, so know that if you are not mine, you will surely be.” for dirt.
- Day after day, the Agha asks for her hand in marriage, but she refuses and says to him, “It is easier for me to die than to marry an oppressor like you.” The girl's lover went to the girl's house, tied her lover, and asked her for the last time to marry him, on the condition that she agreed to leave her lover on his way, and if she refused, then death is their fate together.

- The girl refused again and told him that life with you is dead in itself, so the oppressor killed her lover first and went out to the land of the homes and shouted at the top of his voice calling out to the people of the village and saying this is the reason for her refusal to marry me because she was not a virgin. And they agreed to kill her because she had disgraced the people of her village. As soon as her old grandmother heard the intention of the villagers to kill her, she told her to run away, my daughter, hurry up and run as fast as possible, for God will protect you and all innocent people.
- So the girl, the agha, and the people of the village ran after her to kill her, and the girl ran and did not see in front of her because of the darkness until the poor woman fell into a deep well and fainted, and when the villagers reached her and saw her had fallen into the well, they thought she had died and received her reward, and she woke up crying from the severity of the pain because her legs were broken. Hours later, she felt thirsty and hungry, so she started walking on her hands and dragging her legs behind her, looking for some water. As she searched, she found a hole inside the well, so she entered it to see a wide place in which there was a river running, and in its fruits and full of jewels. Your body is in the water and you will be healed, so the girl placed the bottom of her body in the water, so she healed and no longer felt the pain, but the bottom of her body turned into a snake, and the girl lived with the snakes (Maran), so she was called “Şahmaran”, The Queen of Snakes used to go out every night to help the needy, so she would put money for the poor and medicine for the sick at the doorstep.
Şahmaran With CanŞap |
- There was a young man named “Canşap” who had found a well full of honey, so he decided to go with his companion to extract the honey, so “Canşap” went down to the well and filled the bucket with honey and his companion withdrawing the honey. To no avail until “Canşap” heard the hissing of a snake, and as soon as he got close, he saw a very beautiful girl, half of her a woman and the other half a snake, so “Canşap” told her his story and his companion's betrayal of him, and she also told him what the people of her village had done to her and accused her of treason, and she said to him, I will get you out of the well, “Canşap”, on the condition that you don't Tell someone where I am.
- Days passed, and the ruler of the country fell ill with a disease that no one could cure, so they brought a warlock who was known for magic. The warlock said that the king’s medicine is in the head of “Şahmaran”, the queen of snakes. Everyone said that it was a legend that no one had seen. He carries the sign, and of course, they find the desired young man, but he refuses to disclose its location, under torture and beatings by the king's soldiers and their threat to kill his mother, Jano surrendered and took them to the well in which “Şahmaran” was, so the warlock read some of his books and threw some magic into the well, and it was only moments until “Şahmaran” came out of the well "Canşap" said to the king, before you kill her, let me speak to her for the last time. “Canşap,” said to “Şahmaran”, “Please forgive me.” “Şahmaran,” said to him, “I forgive you. “Canşap”. Betrayal is repeated, but “Canşap”, be careful. When they cut off my head, three cups of liquid will come out of it. The second is medicine for the king, and the third cup is wisdom and knowledge. The sorcerer will take it for himself. O poison, he died.
The Truth About This Story:
- “The Queen of Snakes, Şahmaran” from the mythology of the Kurds, a symbolic story that reflects a deep philosophy, delves into human depth and lists good and evil. It took place there in the sacred Kurdish geographical spot “Botan Island and the outskirts of the city of Nisibis” during the era of the Mitannians, as some sources and accounts speak.
Fatih Sultan Mehmed Han |
- So we must say it’s mythology but Everything changed in the era of the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II the Conqueror, keep Focus.
- One day, a delegation from Venice sent a request to meet Sultan Mehmed Al-Fatih. The Sultan did not agree to the interview at the beginning, but they sent him a message stating that there is a buried treasure that they cannot tell anyone except the Sultan about its location.
- The Sultan agreed to the interview, and during the interview, they told him that there was treasure inside an old stone coffin, but it was not gold or money, the treasure was a mummified body inside this coffin.
Medusa Coffin |
So what do you think, my friend? To whom will this body be returned?
- At first, they told the Sultan that it was Medusa's body all we know from Sultan Mehmed II he brought this coffin from underground but the interesting events started after 300 years at the age of Sultan Abdul Hamid In the year 1879, an earthquake hit the city of Istanbul, which caused cracks in the area surrounding the sarcophagus, which led the Sultan to send scholars to restore the area and the sarcophagus. They opened the sarcophagus for the first time, and it was shocking!!!!
Sultan Abdul Hamid |
- The mummy that came out of the sarcophagus was a snake tail, and the upper part and the face were the body of a girl, that is, the shape bears the description of “Şahmaran”!!!!!
Scary right…………
- And after the sarcophagus and the corpse were shown to the general public in the courtyard of the Al-Fateh Mosque, and after the corpse was dissected by the scholars, they concluded that the formation of the body was not created, but it is in this form, and the sarcophagus and the corpse were hidden after that.
At The End:
Some stories say this “Şahmaran”
is an ancient alien and some stories say it kind from jinns or came from married
between humans and jinns but For now, this mummy has
hidden no one where they have hidden it or how but what we got from history this
event happened and the scientist who check it was from Germany and they wrote
about this too so what you think my friends.
Do you think it’s still a myth or as I usually say that all mythology stories have parted from the truth?
Sure I will be waiting for your comments my friends to know your opinions about this and if there is any topic want to know about it can tell me in the comments too I will be glad
Best Wishes For The Next Topic
